Shania Twain is a Canadian country pop singer. One of the few female musicians who have three albums certified by the recording industry association of America, she is also hailed as the second best selling artist in her own country. Shania's real name was Eileen Regina Edwards; she was born in Windsor, Ontario. She was two years old when her parents got divorced, her family moved to Timmins, Ontario where her mother married Jerry Twain (Shania's step father).
Shania had a hard childhood. Her family always experienced shortage of food in the household. There were times when her step father was at work; her mother will bring her together with her sisters to get some assistance in nearby homeless shelter. Her mother didn't want to confide their situation to the authorities for it will break the family. Shania at a tender age of eight had started singing in some local pubs and restaurants to earn money and help her family. Although she didn't like singing in such smoky places, she believed that this was her performing arts school and helped a lot to develop her skills.
Although Shania has the passion for music, pursuing her music career was as hard as her childhood. She started out as a singer in a local band called Longshot who covers 40 top hits when she was attending high school. In 1993 Shania's self titled album was released. It gained positive recognitions, and garnered audience outside her own country but it failed to sell significantly. In spring of 1995, The Woman in Me was released. The single of the album: Whose bed have your boots been under? Ranked number 11 in the billboard charts. After a year, Shania released the follow up album: Come on Over. This album made a significant role in her career and it made her a successful cross over singer.
After years of practicing her art: the actual writing of songs and performing them, in 2004 she released a Greatest Hits Album which sold over four million copies in the US alone. At present Shania has announced that she is planning to have her own TV show entitled Why Not? With Shania Twain, the show will be on Air in 2011.
